High Head

High Head Valves

Our most popular model for penstock and channel-gate work. Used extensively across Australia and South-East Asia in irrigation, drainage, mining and marine duty. Suitable for operating heads up to six metres (20 ft).

Five variants are made to suit attachment method — headwall mounted, grouted, single flange, in-line and square throat. Standard fabrication is hot-dip galvanised 6 mm mild steel; stainless steel grades 304L or 316L may be specified.

Features

  • · Roller guidance of the valve door
  • · Cam/roller clamping of the door in the closed position
  • · Cam/roller un-clamping of the seal when opening
  • · Ball bearing supported control mechanism
  • · Substantial stainless ‘Acme’ control screw
  • · Bi-directional sealing
  • · Removable top cross-frame, vertical dismantling in-situ
  • · Handwheels standard; power actuators & remote control optional

Medium Head

Medium Head Valves

The medium-head range fills the duty between low-pressure flap valves and the heavy penstocks of the high-head series. Roller-guided doors with cam clamping, the same mechanical principle as the high-head models, scaled to the medium-pressure envelope.

Standard construction is hot-dip galvanised mild steel; stainless is available for corrosive water or wastewater service. The control screw is stainless ‘Acme’ thread, ball-bearing supported, with handwheels fitted as standard. Power actuators with local and/or remote control may be specified.

Extreme Head

Extreme Head Valves

Made in bores up to three metres (10 ft). The larger valves are commonly used for flow control between streams and storages — high flow rates allow rapid capture when water is available, and provide an emergency-release capability.

Smaller valves in the range serve general irrigation duty. Sealing is bi-directional to 8 m head; specially modified versions are rated to 12 m maximum head.

Standard documentation includes: design notes, operation, dimensions, configuration and a dedicated repair-rig assembly.

Detail

Non-Return Valves

Two configurations: fully enclosed in-line valves, or simple end-of-line flaps. Flap-type valves are supplied with various flange, welded or grouted installation arrangements. All Batescrew non-return valves have stainless steel seats and rubber seals; rubber compound is selected to suit the intended operating head — please indicate when ordering.

Standard maximum operating head is 8 m; higher head versions are made to order. Standard construction is mild steel, hot-dip galvanised. Stainless steel grades 304L or 316L may also be specified.

Sealing is between a stainless steel seat welded to the valve body and a resilient disc clamped to the pivoting flap. Dual pivot points provide reliable seating. The seat is inclined at five degrees from vertical, providing gravity-assisted sealing at low pressure and full closure at nil pressure — barring entry to insects and vermin.

Common applications

  • · Pumping system protection against reverse flow
  • · Automatic control of multiple drainage lines into a common sump
  • · Prevention of back-flow at drainage outfalls into streams & tidal estuaries

Sewerage & Wastewater Valves

Stainless valves for wastewater applications and sewerage ponds. Normally supplied with handwheels for manual operation; power actuators are available. Standard construction is stainless steel grade 304L, with 316L specified for more aggressive service.

Power actuators may be set for local and/or remote control and have many optional features. Our Technical Services Department will advise on the actuator types currently in service.

For dimensions, installation, ordering parts and feature lists for either body style, please contact the office.

Diverter Valves

Two- and three-way diverter valves manage flow between adjacent channels or pipeline branches — typically used where one source is to be split between several distribution lines, or where service requires isolation of one branch without shutting the system down.

Construction follows the high-head valve principles — roller-guided, cam-clamped, sealing in both directions — adapted to the diversion geometry. Stainless or galvanised mild steel as specified. Power actuators available where remote sequencing is required.
